Your adventure begins around 4-5 PM (depending on the season) at our meeting point in Merzouga. Here you can leave your car and larger luggage. After a welcoming mint tea, you'll be introduced to your camel and guide. You'll leave civilization behind as you embark on your camel trek, venturing into the silent, rolling dunes of Erg Chebbi. The approx. 90-minute journey is a peaceful and meditative experience. Your guide will lead you to a perfect vantage point to witness the stunning desert sunset.
Evening: Desert Camp & Berber Culture
As darkness falls, you'll arrive at the desert camp nestled amongst the dunes. You'll be shown to your private tent to settle in. Soon after, a delicious multi-course Moroccan dinner will be served in the dining tent. After dinner, gather around the campfire for a session of traditional Berber drumming and singing. Feel free to join in, or simply lean back and enjoy the incredible stargazing in the clear desert sky.
Morning: Sunrise & Return Journey
Your Berber hosts will wake you early to experience the magic of a Saharan sunrise. After the sunrise, a hearty breakfast will be served at the camp. What should I pack for the overnight trek?
We recommend a small backpack with essentials: a warm layer for the evening (it can get cold), sunglasses, sunscreen, a hat or scarf, a camera, a bottle of water for the ride, and any personal medications. Your main luggage can be stored securely at our base in Merzouga.
What if I don't want to ride a camel?
No problem! We offer a complimentary transfer to and from the camp by 4x4 vehicle for any guests who prefer not to ride a camel or are unable to. You can still enjoy the sunset from the dunes near the camp. Please let us know at the time of booking.
Is there electricity or Wi-Fi at the camp?
Our camps are designed to be an escape. While there is solar power for lighting in the tents and common areas, and often a place to charge phones in the main tent, there is no Wi-Fi. We encourage you to disconnect and enjoy the stunning natural environment and the stars!
