This Morocco itinerary 6 days from Marrakech includes extraordinary highlights that will create memories to last a lifetime:

Detailed Day-by-Day Itinerary

Day 1: Marrakech → Ait Benhaddou → Dades Valley

Commencing with your early morning pick up from your Marrakech hotel, you will drive through Morocco’s Great Berber Region, crossing over the Hi Atlas Mountains along the scenic road known as Tizi n'Tichka.

On the way to your first stop, the UNESCO World Heritage Site, Kasbah Ait Benhaddou (the most popular Kasbah in Morocco), we will be stopping along the way for panoramic views of the gorgeous mountains and at a few points to view the Berber villages scattered throughout the mountain range.

Our first official stop is to visit the Kasbah of Ait Benhaddou with a local guide. The Kasbah is a collection of traditional houses built using mud brick architecture which has been featured in many famous movies. After our visit to the Kasbah we continue on through the Valley of Roses and the Skoura Palm Oasis and after passing through the Dades Valley arrive at our overnight hotel, from the terrace of which you will be able to view the unusual rock formations referred to as the Finger of the Monkey's Hand. We will enjoy dinner and a comfortable night's rest in Dades Valley.

Travel Distance: 330 km | Drive Time: ~6 hours with stops
Overnight: Dades Valley Hotel

Day 2: Dades Valley → Todra Gorge → Merzouga Sahara Desert

We begin with a scrumptious breakfast and breathtaking views of the valley below before heading south to one of Morocco's most beautiful wonders—the Todra Gorge. At the Todra Gorge you will have an opportunity to hike through the incredible 300-meter-high walls of limestone that attract rock climbers from all over the globe. The gorge is shaped like a natural cathedral with dramatic sheer cliffs towering above and narrow passages in between.

As we head to the east after leaving the gorge, the landscape gradually becomes sand dunes as we enter the Sahara Desert. By late afternoon we arrive at Merzouga, which is the entry to the enchanting Erg Chebbi sand dunes. This is the highlight of your six-day Morocco desert tour, as you will be able to ride camels into the heart of the stunning golden dunes and arrive at your luxury desert camp just in time for the breathtaking sunset over the dunes. Enjoy a delicious dinner under the stars following a traditional Moroccan meal, and experience Berber music played around the campfire before you retire to your deluxe tent that includes private bathroom amenities.

Travel Distance: 270 km | Drive Time: ~5 hours
Overnight: Luxury Desert Camp

Day 3: Merzouga → Ziz Valley → Ifrane → Fes

To start your day off right, rise early to see an incredible sunrise over the Sahara Desert as the golden and amber light washes over the dunes. After enjoying breakfast at your camp, you will have an unforgettable camel ride back to Merzouga village. From there, you will continue your journey towards Fes, Morocco's cultural and spiritual capital. This segment of your 6-day itinerary includes visits to dramatically different landscapes.

You will witness the scenic Ziz Valley, home to thousands of palm trees and many traditional irrigation methods. Don't forget to take a few pictures from the valley's panoramic view. As you continue north towards Fes, you will travel through the apple capital of Midelt before arriving at Azrou, which features beautiful cedar forests that are often home to wild Barbary macaques. The quaint alpine-style town of Ifrane, which was influenced by European architecture, offers an unexpected contrast to its surroundings. By evening, you will arrive in Fes, where you will spend your first night in your beautiful riad located right in the middle of the ancient medina.

Travel Distance: 470 km | Drive Time: ~7.5 hours with stops
Overnight: Traditional Riad in Fes

Day 4: Fes Guided City Tour

You will spend the day exploring Fes, which is the oldest and most culturally significant city in Morocco and one of its imperial cities. On this guided tour of Morocco, you will meet with an expert local guide who will provide you with insight into Fes's medieval medina by providing stories and insights into its history.

You will enjoy a comprehensive walking tour that includes access to the Royal Palace gates, which feature the extraordinary bronze doors of the Royal Palace. You will also see the Jewish Quarter, known as the Mellah, and the UNESCO-listed area of Fes el-Bali, which is the largest car-free urban zone in the world. The maze-like streets of Fes will lead you to the legendary Chouara Tanneries, where you will see leather tanning still using traditional methods that have not changed in hundreds of years. You will also visit Al Quaraouiyine University (which is the oldest university in the world and has been continuously operating since it was founded in the year 859 AD), as well as artisan workshops that produce intricate zellige tiles, handmade woodwork, and brass items. You will get a chance to visit stunning fountains, historic madrasas (Islamic schools), and many beautiful and breathtaking panoramic views of this one-of-a-kind medieval city. After that, you will be on your own to enjoy your evening at your riad.

Overnight: Traditional Riad in Fes

Day 5: Fes → Chefchaouen (The Blue Pearl)

After breakfast, we will leave Fes and head to one of Morocco's most picturesque places: Chefchaouen. This 6-day program through Morocco will take us from Fes to the Rif mountains and finally to Chefchaouen. The scenery will change throughout our journey as we climb from the plains of Fes into rolling hills filled with bright green grasses and herds of goats and tiny villages filled with farms.

We will arrive at Chefchaouen around noon, and it is easy to see how this town gets its nickname of "The Blue Pearl." Most of the buildings located within the old medina are painted in bright shades of blue, making it a great location for photographers and one of the best Instagrammable places in the world. You will have a chance to stroll through the tranquil streets lined with pedestrian-only shops displaying local handicrafts, relax and enjoy the fresh air, and explore some of Chefchaouen's best-known attractions, such as the Kasbah museum, Plaza Uta el-Hammam (the principal square), and Spanish Mosque, where you will be able to take in the exceptional views of the sunset over the town. The peaceful vibe you will feel in Chefchaouen directly contrasts with the busy city of Fes, with many inviting cafes to relax and watch the people go by.

Travel Distance: 200 km | Drive Time: ~4 hours
Overnight: Hotel in Chefchaouen

Day 6: Chefchaouen → Casablanca (or Marrakech)

On your last day of our 6-day itinerary in Morocco, you will have breakfast before finishing your trip. You will have time on your last day to enjoy the blue streets of Chefchaouen illuminated by the soft morning light before leaving Chefchaouen.

Option A - Ending In Casablanca: We will drive west through the Rif Mountains to Casablanca (Morocco’s Commercial Capital). Once in Casablanca, we will visit the Hassan II Mosque. It is one of the largest mosques in the world, and its minaret is 210 meters high over the Atlantic Ocean. You will have the time to walk along the Corniche before transferring to your hotel or the airport, both located in Casablanca, where you will spend time enjoying the Hassan II Mosque.

Option B - Returning to Marrakech: If you need to return to Marrakech from Casablanca, we will drive south through Morocco's capital, Rabat, with our first stop being Rabat. We will take some breaks for refreshments and pictures along the way down to Marrakech before returning to Marrakech late in the day for hotel drop-off or departure.

Travel Distance: 330 km to Casablanca / 600 km to Marrakech | Drive Time: ~5 hours / ~9 hours
